Tlaquepaque (pronounced Tlah-kay-pah-kay) is a village oasis in the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Even though Tlaquepaque is surrounded by Mexico's second largest city we have kept our small town identity and a relaxing rural pace.

Tlaquepaque is renowned for many things but its most famous destination is the historic quarter of restored colonial and postcolonial homes and buildings in the center of town. The principal pedestrian- only street of the historic quarter is lined with specialty shops restaurants and galleries that present a wealth of artistic and culinary treasures that have made Tlaquepaque famous. This beautiful avenue leads to the town's main plaza and two of the town's oldest churches as well as the "Parian" the mariachi plaza.

Tlaquepaque has always been the home of craftsmen and artists. Guadalajara founded more than 450 years ago by the Spaniards looked to the indigenous craftsmen and artists of Tlaquepaque for their skills to help build the colonial city of Guadalajara.

The Parian was constructed to be the site for the summer and weekend balls and galas that the well-heeled Guadalajarans sponsored.

Tlaquepaque has kept this relaxing festive atmosphere. The Parian is now home to 16 cantinas and restaurants and is still the musical soul of the area. The famous mariachi music of Mexico is said to have originated here and the patrons of the Parian are still serenaded by strolling troops of mariachis that sell their songs to the diners and romantic couples. Weekend shows of traditional dance, music and song are presented throughout the year.

We know that you will enjoy the richness and the history of our town and the city of Guadalajara as it has been enjoyed for hundreds of years.

Casa de las Flores is just three blocks away from Tlaquepaque's historic center and inexpensive taxis or public buses can quickly take you to the center of our capital city Guadalajara.
