Jose Gutierrez
Jose is a Guadalajara native, born and raised in Mexico. By professional training, Jose is a certified public accountant with a degree from the University of Guadalajara. He has expertise in Mexican business, laws and taxes. He is also the master gardener at Casa de las Flores; where he escapes numbers to nurture the flower-filled gardens Casa de las Flores is known for.
Having studied and traveled extensively in the U.S., Jose is fluent in English and enjoys helping visitors understand the practicalities of living and doing business in Mexico — in addition to sharing his interests in plants.
Jose can also explain the subtle differences among the locally distilled tequilas and the excellent local cuisine.
Ask your hosts to arrange for a personal tequila tasting, or a complimentary guided in-house tour of our collection of local folk art.
Stan Singleton
Stan grew up in Northern California in a family where wine and food was always important.
Stan's father taught enology — the science of wine making — for more than 30 years at the University of California at Davis. Stan himself apprenticed at Chez Panisse, Alice Waters' world-famous Berkeley restaurant that became the epicenter of new American cuisine.
As the chef at Casa de las Flores, Stan applies his culinary skills to the special breakfasts served each morning. Food, wine and art are Stan's areas of expertise. His Masters in Fine Art from U.C. Davis gave him a good eye for folk art and architecture, which is evident throughout Casa de las Flores.
As an expatriate American living in Mexico since 1985, there is little in Mexico that that Stan has not done as a foreigner: learning the language, starting a business, buying, building, furnishing property, and more.
Our Staff
Besides your hosts Stan and Jose, many of the members of our great team at Casa de las Flores also speak English. Not all of our staff speak English, but more importantly you can always depend on returning to someone waiting to receive you with a ready smile which sometimes says more than words.
Don't forget our garden bar awaits your pleasure with some of the best Margaritas in town — a perfect place to relax at the end of your day.
